This is amazing family is been on our waiting list for a while now. Their story started almost twenty years ago back in their home town, a small community in a state of the south of Mexico called San Andres.
Rosario and Gustavo have been together for only five years but they grew up together, they were next door neighbors almost most their whole lives.
Gustavo is 33 years old, he grew up in a very big family, he has 11 siblings (2 of them live here in Baja and the rest is back in Puebla). His mom is a widow and worked in the fields almost her entire life. Tavo as his wife calls him dream about joint the military but the laws in his community (they called them traditions and customs) didn’t allow for this to happen. He started working in the fields when he was 6 years old.
Rosario is 28 years old. She is also part of a big family and grew up mostly taking care of her younger siblings. She wanted to be a nurse but tradition also robber her of her dream. Her dad never believe that girls had a right to learn so he never gave permission for her and her sisters to go the school, he always had this idea that it was a waste of time since they “belong in the kitchen”.
When she was a teenager, her mom decided to leave with them because his Dad was very abusive. Her mom is still living back in Puebla but thankfully she is living with one of her kids and their family.
Rosario and Tavo have two daughters, Briseida is the oldest one, she is turning two in February, she is very funny and definitely an extrovert. She loves to play outside. Then they have Kenia, she is only six months old, a cute little baby with very good lungs 😂 Because both of them grew up in big families they imagine themselves having a lot of kids but Rosario had two very difficult pregnancies so right now they are just focusing on taking care of their two babies and provide them with a good education in the future.
Almost two years ago they saved enough money to put a down payment in their land, they started to build with a lot of effort but when Rosario was pregnant with Briseida she had a lot of complications (she had preeclampsia) and so the doctor recommended for her to stay in bed rest during the last trimester. At that time they moved back to a rented place closer to the hospital because they don’t own a car and their land is far back in the hill, there’s no transportation so they were worry about not being able to access medical care if something had happen. They left their house alone for over a month and when they came back they house was in the ground (bad weather cause the wood to break and they were in square one all over again).
They have been trying to rebuild since then, but with the pandemic, losing their jobs and having another baby it has been nearly impossible. Right now they are living in a small room that somebody lends to them and are saving up to start with their septic. Gustavo works in the fields or as a construction assistance when there’s projects. Rosario works at night and him during the day, that way they saved money not having to hired a sitter for the kids. It’s difficult because sometimes they have barely even time to have lunch or dinner together, but they shared that their goal is to sabes enough to have something of their own and then later on in the future Rosario will probably stay home for six months and the work only in the summer which is the best season.
This home not only be a secure, warm and safe place for this family but the push that this family needs to keep moving forward. Thank you for being a part of this.
